Earn 1 Reward Point for every $1 spent on purchases, uncapped

We have simplified your Reward Points earn rate so it’s easier for you to calculate the Reward Points you will earn. Plus, we have removed the Reward Points annual spend limit on purchases so you can earn unlimited Reward Points as follows:

  • Earn 1 Reward Point for every $1 spent on purchases (excluding cash equivalent transactions)1
  • Uncapped Reward Points earning, so there's no limit to the number of Reward Points you could earn1

This is a change to the previous earn rate of 1 Reward Point for every $1.50 spent on purchases (excluding cash equivalent transactions), up to a maximum spend of $50,000 per year on ANZ Rewards Visa cards and $100,000 per year on ANZ Rewards Visa Gold cards1.

On 8 September 2009, any accrued Reward Points balances were multiplied by 1.5 to bring them into alignment with the new Reward Points earn rate. This was a one off adjustment.

In addition, the number of Reward Points required to redeem rewards was also multiplied by 1.5. This change was applied to all rewards, including reward options for Auto-Redemption.

It is important that you understand that there is no change to the amount you need to spend on purchases using your ANZ Rewards card to earn the Reward Points required to redeem rewards.

Plus, there is no change to your current Total Annual Fee due to this change.

Where can I view my Reward Points balance?

Your October 2009 Rewards Statement2 will contain your Reward Points balance calculated at the new earn rate. Alternatively, you can view your recalculated Reward Points balance online by logging onto your rewards account on this website. You can also register to receive your quarterly Rewards Statement via email3.

These changes were made to make it easier for you to calculate the Reward Points you will earn. Plus, we have removed the Reward Points annual spend limit on purchases so you can earn unlimited Reward Points using your ANZ Rewards .

What does the change mean for me?

Effective 8 September 2009, your Reward Points earn rate changed to make the rewards program simpler. As a direct result, your Reward Points balance and the Reward Points required to redeem your favourite reward were recalculated. However the amount you need to spend to redeem your rewards is the same. Plus, we have removed the annual spend limit on purchases so you can earn unlimited Reward Points on ANZ Rewards .

How many Reward Points will I earn for each $1 spent on my ANZ Rewards ?

Earn 1 Reward Point for every $1 spent on purchases (excluding cash equivalent transactions) using your ANZ Rewards with no limit to the number of Reward Points or Bonus Reward Points you can earn.

Did the number of Reward Points required to redeem a reward change?

Yes. The number of Reward Points required changed by the same factor as the Reward Points earn rate. For example, prior to 8 September 2009, a $100 Myer Gift Card was 13,320 Reward Points. From 8 September 2009, a $100 Myer Gift Card is 19,980 Reward Points. Even though the number of Reward Points required to redeem a reward is higher, you will not have to spend anymore on purchases using your ANZ Rewards to earn the Reward Points required to redeem a reward.

What are the new Reward Point conversion rates for Frequent Flyer point redemptions?

From 8 September 2009:
Velocity Rewards: Redeem an initial minimum of 4,500 Reward Points for 2,000 Velocity Points, with redemption of additional Reward Points in multiples of 2,250 Reward Points.
KrisFlyer: Redeem an initial minimum of 6,000 Reward Points for 2,000 KrisFlyer Miles, with redemption of additional Reward Points in multiples of 3,000 Reward Points.
Air New Zealand: Redeem an initial minimum of 3,000 Reward Points for 15 Airpoints Dollars, with redemption of additional Reward Points in multiples of 1,500 Reward Points.
Asia Miles: Redeem an initial minimum of 3,000 Reward Points for 1,000 Asia Miles, with redemption of additional Reward Points in multiples of 1,500 Reward Points.

Terms and conditions apply to the redemption of frequent flyer airmiles.

Do I earn more Reward Points with the change?

Yes. However, you should also note that the number of Reward Points required to redeem a reward has changed. Even though the number of Reward Points required to redeem a reward is higher, you will not have to spend anymore on purchases using your ANZ Rewards to earn the Reward Points required to redeem a reward.

Do I need to spend more to redeem my Reward Points for a reward?

No. The amount you need to spend on purchases to earn Reward Points using your ANZ Rewards did not change. Even though the number of Reward Points required to redeem for a reward is higher, you will not have to spend anymore on purchases using your ANZ Rewards to earn the Reward Points required to redeem a reward.

Did the rewards change as a result of these changes?

No, the reward options you can redeem did not change as a result of this change. However, from time to time the rewards range does change to provide our customers with the latest offers.

What is a Reward Points cap and why was it removed?

ANZ Rewards and ANZ Rewards PAYCARD customers previously received 1 Reward Point per $1.50 spent (excluding cash equivalent transactions) up to a maximum spend of $50,000 per card account per year.

ANZ Rewards Gold customers previously received 1 Reward Point per $1.50 spent (excluding cash equivalent transactions) up to a maximum spend of $100,000 per card account per year.

You will now receive 1 Reward Point for every $1 you spend on purchases (excluding cash equivalent transactions), uncapped. We removed this annual spend cap so you can earn unlimited Reward Points using ANZ Rewards .

Did my Total Annual Fee change?

No, there is no change to your Total Annual Fee as a result of this change.

Did the Bonus Reward Points earned at Bonus Partners change as well?

No. These earn rates will remain unchanged on your ANZ Rewards . Bonus Partners are subject to change.

When will I receive my next Rewards Statement? Will it show the Reward Points converted to the new earn rate?

You will receive your next Rewards Statement in October 2009 if there has been activity on your points record in the prior quarter or you have Reward Points due to expire in the current quarter. In this statement, your Reward Points balance will be calculated at the new earn rate.

How does Reward Points Expiry work now that the change has occurred?

There is no change to the rules of Reward Points Expiry. Reward Points Expiry will still occur on 31 December every year for unredeemed Reward Points from 3 years prior. You will be notified of the number of Reward Points due to expire in your October Rewards Statement if there has been activity on your points record in the prior quarter or you have Reward Points due to expire in the current quarter. The 2006 unredeemed Reward Points due to expire on 31 December 2009 will be calculated at the new earn rate.

How do I update my Auto-Redemption details?

If you have an Auto-Redemption option set up and would like to make a change, you can do so by logging into your online rewards account and updating your Auto-Redemption details.

Am I negatively impacted by this change?

No. These changes were made to make it easier for you to calculate the Reward Points you will earn. The amount you need to spend to earn Reward Points to redeem for rewards has not changed.

Once the change occurs, can I check my updated Reward Points balance prior to receiving the October Rewards Statement?

Yes. You can check your Reward Points balance at any time by logging onto your online rewards account on this rewards website. If you are not registered on the website just follow the registration steps from the homepage.

Did the earn rate change on my ANZ Rewards Diners Club Card?

No. Your current earn rate on your ANZ Rewards Diners Club Card remains the same.
